Guatemala
Archaeological Guatemala & Copán (Honduras)
Wednesday & Sunday departures

(please note that departures can be any day of the week, but because of the market days in Chichicastenango the itinerary might have to be turned around and additional night(s) might be required)

Day 1
Depart London on your Iberia flights via Madrid to Guatemala City. Upon arrival you will be taken to Antigua (approximately 1 hour) for a stay of three nights at the Mesón Panza Verde (Boutique Hotel). (Breakfast)

Day 2 - Antigua walking tour
Half day walking tour of Antigua including visits to the Main Square, the Palace, the Cathedral, La Merced and San Francisco Church. Rest of the day at leisure. (Breakfast)

Day 3 - Azotea Coffee Farm & Maya Museum
Visit to the local woodcarvers in the village of Jocotenango followed by a visit to the Azotea Coffee Farm and Maya Tradition Museum covering traditional music, costumes and traditions. (Breakfasat)

Day 4 - Lake Atitlán
Transfer to Lake Atitlán for a full day visit starting with a scenic boat ride across Lake Atitlán to the village of San Juan La Laguna where you can visit the women's textile cooperative to see hand weaving and natural dye process. There is also the possibility to visit the studios/homes of the celebrated naïf painters. From here you continue to the village of Santiago for a tour of the village visiting the Maya God Maximon and learn about the textiles, spiritualism and the beliefs of the T'zutujil Maya. Overnight at the Hotel Atitlán (Superior Class). (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 5 - Chichicastenango
Morning transfer to the famous Chichicastenango market. Time for shopping in this fabulous craft market and opportunity to see Maya rituals being performed in the Catholic Church before transferring back to Antigua for a stay of one night at the Mesón Panza Verde. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 6 - Copán
Transfer across Guatemala towards the border with Honduras(approximately 5 hours) and cross the border to the pretty colonial village of Copán Ruinas. Afternoon to relax or explore this small town. Two nights at the Hacienda San Lucas (a pretty family owned hacienda with beautiful gardens and views of the river and ruins). (Breakfast)

Day 7 - Copán Ruins
Tour of the Copán ruins site with its famous hieroglyphic staircase, ball court and tunnels followed by a visit to the tropical bird park. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 8 - Rio Dulce
Transfer across Guatemala through the central desert region to the lush tropical area at Rio Dulce (approximately 5 hours). En route visit the beautiful UNESCO protected small Mayan Temple site at Quirigua. Once at Rio Dulce you will board a boat fro a scenic trip along Rio Dulce to the Hotel Villa Caribe (Tourist/Superior Class) for a stay of one night. (Breakfast)

Day 9
Cruise the Rio Dulce River through the central canyon and down to the Garifuna town of Livingston on the Coast. Explore Livingstonand then journey back downriver to Rio Dulce and with luck see the elusive Manatee. Once back at Rio Dulce transfer to the Tikal area (approximately 3-4 hours) for a stay of two nights at the Camino Real Tikal (Superior Class). (Breakfast)

Day 10 - Yaxha
Morning at leisure to relax. In the afternoon transfer to YaxhaNational Park (approximately 1 hour) to explore this atmospheric lakeside site ending with refreshments & wonderful views at sunset (weather permitting) over the rainforest canopy from atop the main temples. (Breakfast)

Day 11 - Tikal
Transfer to Tikal National Park (approximately 1 hour) to explore the amazing UNESCO protected Mayan Temple site of Tikalwhere large Mayan temples rise above the jungle canopy and monkeys and tropical birds are abundant in the surrounding rainforest. In the afternoon transfer to Flores on time for your flight to Guatemala City where upon arrival you will be met and taken to the Hotel Westin Camino Real (Superior Class) for a stay of one night.

Day 12 - Guatemala City
At the agreed time you will be taken to the airport on time for your flights back to London via Madrid with Iberia.

Day 13
Arrive in London.
